Fall brings the MWC back to Geneva Point

Posted on August 29, 2022 at 9:25 AM

Always a time of fun and fellowship, members enjoy a BYO lunch and a delicious dessert table provided by the September hostesses.  A meeting and the annual Coffee Can Auction follows.  This year the MWC is excited to welcome many new members.

In October, Deb Kumpf will deliver a presentation of “America the Beautiful”  at the monthly meeting.  A group from the club will participate in the Lakes Region Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk (for more information contact  Mborowomensclub@gmail.com.)  Local restaurateur, Elena Gagliardi of Gusto Café will speak to the group in November and a holiday concert and sing-along is planned for December.

On primary day, September 13th, there will be a "No Bake" Bake Sale at the Moultonborough Academy.  The club will, however, offer a delectable assortment of baked goods at the polls on November 8th.  These bake sales have been an integral source of revenue for the Scholarship Program which has supported Moultonborough students since 1960.  All monies collected from bake sales go directly to fund scholarships.

The mission of the Moultonborough Woman’s Club since its founding in 1950, has been to promote civic, educational and social activities within the community.

The club’s energies, time and donations have been focused on the good of the community.  Since 1960, the Scholarship Program has raised over $210,000 to aid deserving post-secondary Moultonborough students.  In addition to scholarships, the club has supported various local programs including food pantries, animal shelters, veteran’s organizations, hospice and pediatric services, and family and women’s shelters.  Providing for the community has been key to its mission.  Some of the many fundraisers have included Silent Auctions, Bake Sales (July 4th Book Sales and at the polls), raffles, bag lunches for Town Meetings, Garden Tours, Galas, the Kentucky Derby Party and more.  By participating in the Making Strides Walk each year, a team from the MWC has raised over $148,000 for the American Cancer Society.  The club has been involved in the Adopt-A-Spot program, maintaining the garden in front of Moultonborough’s town hall and has contributed to Meredith Village Savings Bank’s Mitten Tree Program and Altrusa’s annual Festival of Trees.

Members of the MWC enjoy socializing at each meeting and at special events.  Various speakers, including community leaders, authors, charitable organizations and notable community members, share their expertise to enhance knowledge and understanding of specific topics.  Members have opportunities to share their skills, work with women of diverse talents and backgrounds and communicate ideas and experiences to realize personal growth.

The Moultonborough Women’s Club meets at 11:30AM on the first Monday of the month October through May at the Moultonborough Function Hall (former Lions Club.)  September meetings have been held at Geneva Point and in June a special end of the season banquet is planned.  The monthly meetings begin with lunch, a speaker of interest, followed by a business meeting.  You are welcome to join the MWC at a meeting if you are new to the area or have been a longtime member of the community.    In addition to Moultonborough, members are from Center Harbor, Chelmsford MA, Laconia, Melvin Village, Meredith, Merrimack, Mirror Lake, Sandwich and Tuftonboro.  Those from other surrounding towns are welcome.
