Moultonborough Women's Club Vice President Amy Corston and John Moulton local farmer

Following Easter, the Moultonborough Women's Club met Monday, April 2 for their monthly meeting. Member Barbara Koehler introduced John Moulton of Moulton Farms located on Quarry Road in Meredith. John employs 50 local people, who help in growing wonderful, fresh veggies and lovely flowers. He recently returned from a convention in Arizona, where he learned of new methods being used in agriculture, resulting in quality and more yield. Vast, new greenhouses with automation and d hydroponic growing is not only popular today but highly successful. Seems just about everyone plants something, which resulted in a lively Q&A.

Vice President Amy Corston conducted the meeting and was amazed at the huge amount of used shoes that were donated by members. The shoes will go to the Second Chance Animal Shelter in Littleton, where they are weighed and sold off, benefitting the animals. Amy was also delighted with an abundance of articles brought for our NH Veterans Home in Tilton, for our April charity. Useful items are always a welcome sight to the Sunshine Cart to help our GI's.  Hospitality Trish Martin-Wallace and Sharon Paton arranged a delightful luncheon catered by Chef Donna Grow and her well trained culinary staff. The chicken and gravy dish was delightful and a welcome sight. Once again, the dessert ladies didn't disappoint and presented a celebration of delicious sweets.

What's next? Eloise Post and Carol Bamberry have been planning and working with a large group to bring us our very first Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 5, at the Moultonborough Community Hall.  Games are planned to have a little fun before the Derby takes off, A hat contest will take place so get out the lace, ribbons, feathers and flowers to begin decorating your fascinator (as the British say). The men can compete in a bow tie contest. So guys, use your imagination and lets see what you come up with. It's $20 for a FUN night 5 to 9 pm and best of all BYOB. A silent auction will be availabe with great offers for you to peruse. There will be tempting appetizers and later light southern refreshments followed by a large variety of southern cakes for all to enjoy. Call Carol to reserve your ticket at 731-1942. Then MWC will be joining Meredith's 29th annual Community Yard Sale on Saturday, May 19 from 9 am to 3 pm. The Moultonborough women will participate by holding a multi family style yard sale at the Lions Hall located at Old Rt 109s. There will be individual tables, a jewelry sale and a bake sale.
